Greene/Theriot

Justin Greene and Elizabeth Theriot consider the intersections between spoken word and experimental sound as they explore queer frameworks for interrogating non-normative bodies and identities. Their collaborations exist as a murky swamp of improvisations and composed scores augmented by strategies, cues, and games meant to generate democratically constructed performances.

Elizabeth’s interests involve the complexities of living inside a body, and how that interacts with emotional expression and longing. Her writings explore loss, trauma, joy, and tenderness. Engrossed by sounds abstracted to their independent elements and their resultant amalgamation when sounded or silenced in acoustic spaces, Justin creates aggregate percussion instruments in real-time by utilizing objects such as drums and porcelain sheets as amplifiers for seemingly inconspicuous sounds. Their music highlights tension and release through contemplative listening.

Justin and Elizabeth are from Louisiana.

Justin Greene and Elizabeth Theriot explore the intersections between spoken word, experimental sound, and improvisation. They challenge normed approaches to their disciplines and develop queer frameworks for exploring sexuality, disability, mental health, and, in general terms, moving through the world inside a body. Elizabeth uses a variety of her written works, found texts on topics from hysteria to herbalism, and freely improvised material. Justin uses drums and porcelain sheets as amplifiers for a variety of objects. Their music exists between intimate, sustained, timbral manipulations and strongly juxtaposing textures. Justin and Elizabeth are from Louisiana and currently live in Alabama. They enjoy advocating for reproductive justice, spending time with their two beautiful cats and goofy dachshund, and searching for the perfect poached egg. This album is the culmination of their Summer 2018 tour. It is a rough edit uploaded for application purposes. A final edit is expected for release on Bandcamp in December 2018. Recorded at the University of Alabama 9.1.18 Mastered by Justin Greene
